vSphere 6.7 delivers an exceptional experience for the user with an enhanced VMware vCenter Server Appliance (vCSA). It introduces several new APIs that improve the efficiency and experience to deploy vCenter, to deploy multiple vCenters based on a template, to make management of vCenter Server Appliance significantly easier, as well as for backup and restore. It also significantly simplifies the vCenter Server topology through vCenter with embedded platform services controller in enhanced linked mode, enabling customers to link multiple vCenters and have seamless visibility across the environment without the need for an external platform services controller or load balancers.
vSphere 6.7 Update 1 release also delivers the vCenter Server Converge Tool that will help customers migrate their topology from vCenter Server with External PSC into vCenter Server with Embedded PSC, so customers can benefit from a simplified architecture with the same performance. Some key new capabilities of vSphere 6.7 Update 1 include:
- Simple and Efficient Management, at Scale - vSphere 6.7 builds on the technological innovation delivered by vSphere 6.5, and elevates the customer experience to an entirely new level. It provides exceptional management simplicity, operational efficiency, and faster time to market, all at scale.
- Fully Featured HTML5-based vSphere Client - Enables fast performance and easy management of connected components.
- Comprehensive Built-In Security - vSphere 6.7 adds support for Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 hardware devices and also introduces Virtual TPM 2.0, significantly enhancing protection and assuring integrity for both the hypervisor and the guest operating system.
- Universal Application Platform - vSphere 6.7 is a universal application platform that supports new workloads (including 3D Graphics, Big Data, HPC, Machine Learning, In-Memory, and Cloud-Native) as well as existing mission critical applications. It also supports and leverages some of the latest hardware innovations in the industry, delivering exceptional performance for a variety of workloads.
- Seamless Hybrid Cloud Experience - vCenter Server Hybrid Linked Mode makes it simple for customers to have unified visibility and manageability across an on-premises vSphere environment running on one version and VMware Cloud on AWS, running on a different version of vSphere.
vSphere 5.5 End of General Support Reminder
If you are running vSphere 5.5, please be advised that End of General Support (EOGS) for vSphere 5.5 occurred on September 19, 2018. Read the 5.5 EOGS blog for more details.
Everybody can download VMWare Server for free from VMWare Server download page (discontinued). However, to install VMWare Server, users need to have serial number or product key, which is also available for free. From the download page, the Download button is so prominent that you might easily miss out the register link that is where you can get the free serial number(s), as the Download link will not provide any keys to install VMWare Server other than allows you to download the installer setup file.
So to get VMWare Server free serial number or product key, simply complete registration at http://register.vmware.com/content/registration.html (obsolete). You can get for free up to 100 serial numbers at one go without any charges or fees.
Vsphere 6.5 Licensing Key Issue
vSphere 6.0 released and we are started evaluating the features of our brand new hypervisor with our evaluation license. The evaluation period is 60 days but do you think 60 days is not enough to keep your hands dirty with ESXi 6.0. It will be time-consuming to re-install ESXi 6 every 60 days after your evaluation license is expired. Don’t worry, VMware provides us with the Free ESXi 6.0 Hypervisor with non-expired license keys. VMware ESXi Free version is the same download as the full ESXi with exact same ISO but stays unlocked only for 60 days. If you don’t enter the serial number for the free version, the product works as full version during 60 days. When the trial period ends and the product locks out the advanced features and becomes VMware ESXi free.

After you upgrade to ESXi6.5, you must apply a vSphere6.5 license.
When you upgrade ESXi 5.5 or ESXi 6.0 hosts to ESXi6.5 hosts, the hosts are in a 60-day evaluation mode period until you apply the correct vSphere 6.0 licenses. See About ESXi Evaluation and Licensed Modes.
You can upgrade your existing vSphere 5.5 or 6.0 licenses or acquire vSphere 6.5 licenses from My VMware. After you have vSphere 6.5 licenses, you must assign them to all upgraded ESXi6.5 hosts by using the license management functionality in the vSphere Web Client. See the vCenter Server and Host Management documentation for details. If you use the scripted method to upgrade to ESXi6.5, you can provide the license key in the kickstart (ks) file.

VMware vSAN powers market-leading Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) solutions through native integration with the industry-standard VMware vSphere hypervisor and the VMware vCenter Server unified management solution. vSAN is quite capable of running nearly any virtual server and desktop workload. These workloads run in an ever-increasing number of environments: primary data centers, disaster recovery sites, remote offices, call centers, retail stores, commercial ships, and more. A one-size-fits-all licensing model does not cover such a wide variety of use cases so VMware offers vSAN in a few different licensing options.
UPDATE: The vSAN Licensing Guide has been updated. See the vSAN 6.6 Licensing Guide.
The vSAN 6.5 Licensing Guide is available to help customers and partners understand what licensing editions are available, the features included in each edition, the consumption types (per-CPU, per-VM, per-CCU), and the scenarios where they are commonly used. Notable changes to the licensing lineup include support for all-flash configurations with all license types, block access using the iSCSI protocol, and the addition of ROBO Advanced to enable all-flash space efficiency features such as deduplication and compression in a cost-effective, per-VM licensing model for remote office locations.
While it might seem a bit confusing at first, you will hopefully see that the intent was to keep licensing as simple as possible while providing flexible, cost-effective options for a wide variety of implementation scenarios. The vSAN 6.5 Licensing Guide begins with a quick introduction to vSAN and the license editions available with version 6.5. This is followed by several example scenarios along with a summary that highlights the main items to keep in mind when considering vSAN licensing.
