How do I download it to read on my Kobo??
A few years ago I started using Kindle on my PC. I never saw the point of owning the Kindle device because the only places I would read a book would be in my home or coffee shop where I can easily bring my laptop. Before then, I read a lot of paperback books and thought that reading on my computer would ruin the experience, but I easily got hooked. It is so much more convenient to download the next book in a series without going out to the store or waiting a few days for it to arrive in the mail. I can pick up exactly where I left off without leaving my chair. For free books, I signed up with BookBub. You can set your genre preferences, and they send me daily emails with books that I might be interested. Often, at the top of the list, are books I can download for free. They are usually the first of series books to get people interested.
' so bigtime readers will probably prefer a real Kindle'.
Nope. I prefer print, thank you very much. But when I do read ebooks, the devices I already own work perfectly well. I think ereaders are overrated. Turn down the backlight of your tablet to prevent eyestrain and it does everything an ereader can and more. There are perfect scans of print books online and eInk has nothing on them. The only downside is that the battery doesn't last as long as an ereader but my tablet lasts 24 hours easily and you're not gonna read for 24 hours plus.
Thank you very much for this guide. It helped me and my friends a lot.
Please tell the site with free kindle ebooks.
What should i do if i want to have the book really downloaded on my PC? Like a real file. I don't have kindle but another ebook. What should i do then?
Search the synced books from this folder: ...Documents/My Kindle Content'
All the downloaded books via Kindle for PC are saved here.
send the file to google drive. it can open the pdf or epub & let you read the book on the pc
'send the file to google drive'
That's ridiculous. You should be able to just download it DIRECTLY TO YOUR PC once you buy it, it is yours after all. They're going to make you jump through hoops when all they need to do is provide a direct download? Gee I wonder why.....
Thank You so much,
I did it, got my book, now I can read on my desk top and my kindle
thank you again.Nothing's happen after clicking orange button ??
Just redirect to book page.
is there a site for free e books, that is offline. I have a tablet and when I am traveling and not close to wifi it does not work. Help
I recommend finish the download of your books under Wifi connecting.
Then, when not close to wifi you can read eBooks freely.
thanks for the info.
no need credit card just email add to reg at amazon and use it on your kindle for pc.
but the interface is different now though. no more drop down menu besides 'shop in kindle store' or search.
'sync and search for new items' seems to take too long to finish thoughThanks for the comments lol I didn't try to download the app
Hello! Thanks for the article. When I downloaded the software (12/12/09) I didn't haft to put in a credit card #. All I did was enter my amazon account and voilà ! Also, now they have lots more free books. Check it out, if you haven't already.
If I'm not buying anything, what's up with insisting on a cc??
The installation process was easy. Thanks for the clear instructions. I had an Amazon account, and I've downloaded a free book successfully.
Actually, the Kindle for PC is like a lightweight PDF reader. What I like is to be able to access Amazon Kindle store ebooks. And the Kindle is remembering the last location.
But the program is still in early stages. If you go to http://www.amazon.com/KindleForPCComingSoon you'll see that highlights and notes are coming soon. These are the basic features but lacking in Kindle for PC.
Thanks keshav. Your tip was really helpful. :) Nice to see doctors active on makeuseof. Am an Internist....:)
Check out Barnes & Noble's 'Nook,' to be available for purchase at the end of the month (www.nook.com). Assuming that it does what it says it does, it should blow Kindle out the water!
'the Kindle for PC, with the Mac version on it’s way!'
So having a PC automatically means you've got Microsoft Windows? And if you don't have a 'PC' you have a Mac? How quaint.
Elwood Blues: -'What kind of music do you usually have here?'
Claire: -'Oh, we got both kinds. We got country *and* western.'And since when do marketers to a mass audience market to nix users? Use Wine or Parallels for the Windows or Mac conversion (parallels worked for me) and continue using whatever flavor of Linux makes your soul happy. :)
Why on Earth would I want to go to all that trouble just to get what should be copyright free books into a proprietary, locked, DRM'd, remotely-deletable format on a PC only when I can have all of these and tons more in open formats that I can read for the next several hundred years on many devices including portable ones like my nice, high-res smart phone?
STRANGE!
There are other sites to search free kindle books.
One of the best is feedbooks:
http://www.feedbooks.com has loads of free books which can be downloaded in kindle format. First download kindle for PC. After downloading the books from feedbooks in Kindle format, double click on the downloaded file to automatically open in Kindle reader. Kindle reader itself does not have open (ctrl+o) option.I hope I have added something.

Went to Kindle on Amazon and 'No Free Books' all books seem to be $2.30, forget that.
There is no free beer
I have an account on amazon.com. However i can't find any free books either. The cheapest, including Dickens', is 2.30.
:(I HAVE to give them access to a credit card? No thanks.
Even the free books require you to click on a button that says 'buy it', No thanks.
The whole process sounds intentionally confusing and kinda scammy.i set up the kindle no problem however when i went to the kindle store there were no free books, the cheapest available (including the Dickens) were USD2.30.
could my registering with an Amazon.co.uk rather than Amazon.com account be the cause?Yes, amazon.co.uk may be the problem. Try this direct link
i followed the link to Amazon.com you kindly provided and had the same problem, no free books, until, after a bit of experimentation, i found that if you search for books in the sub-department 'Kindle Books' there are no freebies, but if you search for 'Kindle Books' in the main department 'Books' there they are.
Hate it, unless I did something wrong or until they fix one thing. Your book appears to be bound to that device. So if I've got the reader on my iPhone and my PC, I want to read it on both (I take the iPhone places I do not take the laptop). Can I do that?

Amazon Appstore is the second largest app market for Android Devices after Google’s own Play Store.
The majority of people with Android smartphones and tablets choose to download apps from the default Google Play Store. However, Google’s app store is not the only option available and there are a number of third-party offerings. Amongst them, the Amazon Appstore is probably the most well known. If you want to know all about the Appstore including how it works, how to download and install the Amazon_App.apk, and available features, read on for all the details you need.
The Android Appstore is the retail giant’s own online store where Android device users, as well as Kindle e-book users, can purchase and download mobile apps and software applications. It was launched in 2011 and is now accessible in a huge amount of countries across the world. The number of apps on offer has grown rapidly, with an estimated 600,000 apps available as of April 2017. Notably, Amazon entered into an agreement with BlackBerry in 2014, and now new BlackBerry Android smartphones also have access to the App store.
The Appstore is now well established, although it hasn’t been an entirely smooth ride for Amazon, especially in the early stages. For instance, there were initial concerns about distribution terms and also Apple filed a lawsuit against them because of the similarity of the term Appstore to its own App Store name (although the claims were rejected.)
How Amazon App Store works?
Amazon’s Appstore works in a similar way to other app stores, so developers submit free apps as well as paid apps and receive a percentage of the revenue. Device owners can then browse the store to check the applications that available or search for something in particular. Some are Amazon-only apps including Amazon Instant Video, and those who subscribe to Amazon Prime will need this one to get access to the video content. Additionally, there are certain common apps on the Google Play Store that are also available on Amazon’s version, such as Facebook, Netflix, and Spotify. However, there are some exceptions although the gap is slowly closing, and there’s also a lack of Google Play services.
How to Download amazon Appstore apk and Install?
So how do you get the Amazon Underground app on your device? A growing number of Android devices are now launching with the app already built in, and this is especially the case with high-end smartphones. If you have a device where the app is not already downloaded you’ll need to manually download and install the .apk file. This is a little different to the usual method and you’ll have to enable your device to access apps outside of the Google Play Store first. To do this you’ll first be required to head to Settings, then Security on your device and then check Unknown Sources.
It’s worth noting at this point that if you also want to receive updates for your apps from amazon, you’ll have to keep your device on this setting. Next, you’ll need to get the Appstore apk file on your Android smartphone or tablet by heading to Amazon from your device’s browser. You can choose to directly install the Amazon Underground app from the link below
Alternatively you can also get the app from this Mirror Link
With this method simply download the app’s APK file using the link you receive in the email. Tap on the file download to begin installing it, and once this is complete you can open the app. You’ll need to sign in with your Amazon account or create one if you haven’t got one already by entering your email address or phone number. By now you should be up and running but we’ll point out that by enabling Unknown Sources you may leave yourself open to installing malicious apps.
Therefore we urge readers to only install apps from trusted sources. This process might seem a little intimidating if you’re not very tech-savvy, but in fact is straightforward if you just follow the above steps.
Amazon Appstore features:
Now the app is installed you’ll see that there are some similarities to Google Play in the way that it’s laid out. The design is somewhat dark and it’s clear that leisure is a big focus, with the top featured categories often involving entertainment, games, and music. A ‘Shop’ section has categories that include Top Charts, New Releases, Recommended For You (based on your interests), Games, and Amazon Coins. The latter is Amazon’s own digital currency that was introduced to the Appstore in 2013.
100 Amazon coins are worth $1 and Android Appstore and Kindle Fire customers can buy them. However, if you buy the coins in bulk, with various denominations anywhere between 500 and 50,000, you can save up to 30% when using them to purchase apps, games, and in-app items. This can be a good option for those who buy a lot of apps, as the more coins you buy, the more you’ll save. Nevertheless, please note that Amazon Coins cannot be spent across Amazon’s store so you won’t be able to use them on Prime video or digital music. Because of this, you might find it preferable to purchase an Amazon Gift Card that can be used across the whole site.
The Amazon Appstore also has featured apps and games, and a Library section that features My Apps, Gift Cards & Promos and Manage Subscriptions. A useful point here is that you can manage your collection of apps within three columns, Cloud, Device, and Updates, and select which ones go on to your smartphone or tablet. Further to this, your Amazon apps can be shared with family members, even if you have separate personal and work Appstore accounts. Because they are not part of a Google Account, those you share the apps with will not be able to access your email or Google Drive for example.
Free Apk Downloads For Kindle Books
Of course, you can also browse a wealth of categories, such as cooking communications, productivity, health and fitness, music, kids, travel, sport, and a whole lot more. As you would expect there is also a search facility if you’re looking for something in particular, and users can refine searches by the device (including Fire Phone, Kindle Fire and Fire Tablets, customer review rating average, price and more.
We should also mention the hottest feature on the Appstore used to be its “free App of the Day.” This was a big draw for many users, after all, who doesn’t love a bargain! For the majority of the time, the free daily app was some sort of game. When this feature first launched it was an ad-free version of Angry Birds Rio, while on the European launch it was an ad-free version of Angry Birds. Of course, this meant that developers missed out on payments whilst their apps were the featured free App of the Day. However, this feature was retired on the arrival of the Amazon Appstore’s Underground (also known as ‘actually free’ apps).
As the name suggests, Amazon Underground apps are not the usual free apps, but instead are 100% free games that include in-app purchases for lives, levels, and upgrades, which you’d usually have to pay for on the Google Play Store. The ‘actually free’ offerings for users in the US, UK, France, and Germany, include apps, games, and in-app items to the tune of over $20,000. Just some of the titles available are games such as Frozen Free Fall, Star Wars Rebels: Recon Missions, and Angry Birds Slingshot Stella, as well as productivity apps such as OfficeSuite Professional 8.econ Missions, OfficeSuite Professional 8, Goat Simulator, Angry Birds Slingshot Stella and much more.
One difference from the free App of the Day is that developers are still supported, with Amazon picking up most of the costs involved. However, there’s a big but here, as just yesterday Amazon announced that its Underground program is to close. After May 31st this year Amazon will no longer accept app submissions for Underground from developers, and the service will then be closing to users in the summer of 2017. There’s a further twist though, as Underground Actually Free apps already purchased by that time will work as usual until some point in 2019.
The news of the closedown was a surprise to many, particularly considering that Amazon initially said that the program would be long-term. At the moment it’s unclear what will happen with the regular App Store, although it’s said that this will carry on as usual. In the meantime, it would be good to know if Amazon will reinstate the free ‘app of the day.’
Final Thoughts
It’s always good to have alternatives to popular services, and many device owners are certain to enjoy the Amazon Appstore. However, one drawback is that app updates with security patches, new features, and fixes, may not arrive as quickly as for other platforms i.e. Google Play, as developers often push those out first.
Another thing to take into consideration is that if you’re downloading apps from different sources it can become somewhat confusing to remember which is which, and you’ll have to go through different libraries if you purchase a new device. These are both things to bear in mind when using Amazon’s Appstore, but it shouldn’t put you off at least trying it out, especially as some apps are cheaper than for other platforms and the choice is growing all the time.
